Teakwood Project Named Best Historic Remodel by CRBRA

We are thrilled to announce that Teakwood’s “Growing Gracefully” project has been honored with the Best Historic Remodel award at the prestigious Annual Building Awards Dinner, hosted by the Capital Region Builders & Remodelers Association. This is a testament to our dedication to preserving historical charm while infusing modern elegance into our renovation projects.

Set in the historic district of Saratoga Springs, “Growing Gracefully” was completed in collaboration with Balzer + Tuck Architecture and E Tanny Design and involved the transformation of an 1890s Colonial Revival-style home. Our goal was to respect the home’s rich architectural history while making it suitable for the client’s modern lifestyle, particularly their love for entertaining.

A Seamless Kitchen

The kitchen underwent a remarkable transformation, expanding into a modern culinary space adorned with a statuesque marble-topped island, custom cabinetry, and a mantle hood with intricate corbels. This space, once cramped and awkward, now stands as a testament to refined functionality and style.

Upgraded Features

One of the standout features of this renovation is the ingeniously designed wine cellar in the basement, cooled solely by the ground’s natural thermal properties – a nod to sustainable practices and historical authenticity. The reimagined mudroom, bathed in natural light, offers efficient storage and a work desk, serving as a practical yet elegant entryway.

Second Floor Retreat

Moving to the second floor, the primary suite has been reborn into a sumptuous retreat, boasting a spacious walk-in closet, a luxurious bath, and a rooftop terrace, offering a private haven for relaxation and contemplation.

Upgrading the Exterior

Externally, the addition has transformed the rear exterior, softening edges, correcting rooflines, and integrating materials that pay homage to the home’s historic essence. This aspect of the project particularly impressed the judges at the Annual Building Awards Dinner, as it showcased our ability to enhance historical character while introducing contemporary elements.
