Italianate Update

An eye-popping 1868 Italianate home in downtown Saratoga Springs needed an exterior restoration befitting its historic heritage. What began as a simple cosmetic refresh of some trims and minor masonry repair soon became a more in-depth project. It involved expert restoration-in-place or replication of a number of distinctive architectural features touched by time and the elements. Elaborate cornice moulding and millwork were repaired or replaced around the entire second story, with original and new components blended seamlessly. Decorative brackets at the deep eaves were restored. Up top, a hallmark belvedere with considerable rot got special treatment from Teakwood’s artisans. The painstaking refurbishment included custom-crafted jambs, sills, casings, and sashes and hand-glazed glass.  Streetside, a sagging sun porch was rebuilt as a welcoming seasonal space with custom mahogany panels, tongue-and-groove decking, and edge-and-center bead board ceiling. Copper downspouts fashionably mitigate future water issues. With a special sensitivity to important details and a unique understanding of historic homes, Teakwood helped with the renaissance of this 19th century masterpiece.
